Carpet Beetles

Carpet Beetle

Carpet beetles belong to family Dermestidae (Order Coleoptera)they are mostly known for causing damage to materials of animal origin.

There are several species in Australia, the most commonly encountered is the variegated carpet beetle and the black carpet beetle.

Adult carpet Beetles are generally small up to 5mm in length and with an oval or elongated-oval shape. They are more widely spread than that of the cloths moths, owing to their higher tolerance of lower humidity.

Only the larval stage is destructive to various materials as they produce droppings similar to that of sand generally in undisturbed areas.
