Fleas and their order has 2380 species, only about 90 of which are present in Australia. Adult fleas are blood suckers and they feed on mammal’s majority of the time.

Adult fleas are 1.5mm-4.00mm long generally brown in colour Fleas undergo a complete metamorphism; an adult female can lay up to 4-8 eggs after each blood meal, the female may lay several hundred eggs in her life time.

Fleas are bloodsuckers and transmit diseases to humans potentially causing infection at the wound site.
